A Comte Enguerrand du Suau de la Croix heart pendant

This is a truly rare pendant made by Comte du Susau de La Croix (1840-1910), hand engraved on the edge of pendant. Comte Enguerrand du Susau de La Croix is fascinated by oriental cloisonné techniques since young age and had been experimenting all techniques of enamel thus came out of his own : cabochon plique-à-jour enamel. His way of making enamel as gemstone cabochons is one of a kind; translucent enamels made with high fire, with high relief cabochon whose convex shape produces light intensities and degraded tints that no known enamel had yet been able to achieve. 

In 2012,  Musée d'Orsay acquired the complete archive of du Suau de la Croix and several resembled drawings of this pendant is in the collection.  A number of pieces by him are now on display at the museum which can also shows the importance of his work in French enamel jewelry.

This dainty and well-conserved heart pendant is made in the taste of trending Art Nouveau, consisted of symmetrical fuchsia pink flowers and leaves made with convex plique-à-jour enamel. A rose cut diamond is set to its center, showing this is a precious pendant to set with a genuine diamond though it is made with gilt metal like most of the enamel jewelry made by Comte du Susau de La Croix.
