French Art Nouveau grape vine pearl ring
A French Art Nouveau 18k bi-colored gold ring of grape vine design with a pearl set center, c.1890-1900s.
The asymmetrical and free flowing lines perfectly interpret the beauty of the grape vine: the engraved pattern of the three-dimensional leaves, gold beaded grapes and the climbing vines which extend from the front to the back. A close back creamy pearl is set to its center. This piece was made separately and then welded together, a process that requires much more labor and time than machine molding, presenting the spatial beauty of nature.
The carved numbers 11 6 1922 which represents June 11th, 1922 can be seen in the inner shank. The numbers were probably not marked while making but engraved later to commemorate a special date.
