Antique Southern European diamond floral emerald ring c.1890
This is a late 19th-century emerald ring from Southern Europe, possibly Spain. The ring is crafted in 18k solid gold and silver, set with six diamonds. The central focus is a natural emerald set in a gold bezel. The surrounding openwork carving is highly artisanal, resembling six petals embracing the main emerald. Each of these floral designs has a diamond set in the center.
It's fascinating to note that these six diamonds are rough diamond crystals in their original octahedral shape. These rough diamond crystals have thickness compared to cut diamonds (usually, a well-shaped octahedral crystal can be cut into two diamonds).
The ring is in good antique condition, showing normal wear and oxidation. There are unreadable marks on the shank. For a more detailed assessment, please click and enlarge our photos, as judgments about the condition can be subjective.
