French Belle Époque emerald and ruby ring c.1900
This French Belle Époque ring, dating to around 1900, is crafted in 18k gold with platinum-topped details, set with an emerald accented by rubies.
At the center sits an emerald, framed by four small rubies placed at the cardinal points, creating a striking contrast of color. The open-back setting enhances the natural glow of the stones, allowing light to pass through freely. Flowing around the gemstones is a platinum-topped gold frame with feather-like curves, sculpted folds, and granulated beading—adding depth and elegance to the airy openwork design.
Delicate and refined, this ring reflects the Belle Époque’s distinctive blend of Art Nouveau grace, Arts and Crafts workmanship, and Edwardian sophistication—a celebration of beauty from a time of prosperity and romance.
The ring is in good antique condition, with normal signs of oxidation and wear consistent with age. It bears the French eagle head hallmark for 18k gold along with an unidentified maker’s mark.
