English Edwardian sapphire and pearl brooch with architectural openwork design, c.1910
This elegant brooch from England, c.1910, dates to the Edwardian period and is crafted in 21k gold (86.77%) and platinum (94%). It is set with a sapphire, natural pearls, and diamonds.
The brooch features a finely constructed openwork design, composed of slender yet sturdy lines forming a symmetrical architectural structure. Its circular form and cross-axis divisions exemplify the refined balance and lightness associated with Edwardian jewelry, while also anticipating the clean geometry of the Art Deco movement.
At the center sits a vividly hued sapphire, framed by pearls and diamonds positioned at the cardinal points. The use of negative space enhances both the dimensionality and the visual clarity of the composition, resulting in a piece that feels both airy and precise.
The brooch is in good antique condition, with very little signs of oxidation and wear. As condition assessments are subjective, please click and enlarge our photos to examine more detailed aspects before making your evaluation.
