English Georgian openwork lace pin set with garnets from the beginning of 19th century

This English Georgian lace pin, dating to the 1810s–1820s, is crafted in silver gilt and set with garnets in varying shades of deep purple-red.

Once a decorative fastener for fine lace, this pin now stands on its own as a delicate jewel. Its openwork structure recalls the intricacy of lace itself, with flat-cut garnets set in a symmetrical, pierced design that mirrors the elegance of textile craftsmanship. The flat-cut style, seen here in closed-back settings, was widely used in European jewelry from the late Renaissance through the early 19th century.

Garnets held deep symbolic meaning in Georgian England, representing fidelity and lasting affection—qualities often expressed through sentimental jewelry of the time.

Traces of conversion on the reverse suggest that this piece may originally have been part of a necklace, later reworked into a pin.
