English Georgian five-stone garnet ring c.1820
This English five-stone ring from the Georgian period, circa 1820, is crafted in 9k gold and set with foil-backed garnets in rich, velvety red. The stones are arranged in a graceful horizontal sweep, with the central gem slightly larger and the flanking stones decreasing symmetrically in size—a classic composition that balances elegance and harmony.
Each garnet is collet-set into a closed-back mount, its foil backing enhancing both brilliance and depth of color. The garnets glow with a vivid crimson hue, especially under low, warm light. As with all foil-backed jewels, contact with water should be avoided to prevent oxidation of the foil and preserve the brilliance of the stones.
The ring is in good antique condition for its age, showing expected signs of wear and oxidation. Some areas of the setting exhibit more pronounced oxidation. Minor chips are present on the edges of a few stones, and the facets show wear visible to the naked eye. The band is slightly misshapen and no longer perfectly round, but remains stable for wear.
