English Victorian star-punched long guard chain in 9k gold, c.1870–1890
This long guard chain from the late English Victorian era (c.1870–1890) is crafted in 9k solid gold, measuring 150 cm (~59 inches) in length and weighing 27 grams. It features a box chain structure with a functional clasp.
Each cubical link is precisely joined to form a flat, geometric line with soft flexibility. All four faces of every link are delicately star-punched—openwork patterns that allow light to pass through, creating a flickering effect like tiny stars in motion. The result is a tactile and luminous chain with subtle movement and quiet brilliance.
Substantial in both length and weight, the chain drapes with fluidity and elegance. Its structure offers a pleasing rhythm and excellent versatility: wear it long and unadorned, doubled around the neck, or paired with your favorite pendant. This is a rare combination of visual charm, functional length, and antique craftsmanship.
In very good antique condition with minimal signs of wear or oxidation—exceptionally well-preserved for a piece of its age. As condition assessment is subjective, please click and enlarge the photos for detailed examination.
