19th century French Duchess Anne ring
Rare example of the famous Duchess Anne ring, named after Anne of Brittany.
Anne of Brittany was reigning Duchess of Brittany from 1488 until her death, and Queen of France from 1491 to 1498 and from 1499 to her death. She is the only woman to have been queen consort of France twice. Louis XII was very much in love with her. In Brittany and southern Normandy the silver ring "à la duchesse Anne" with two hearts and seven coloured garnets was very popular during 19th century as an engagement ring. Our ring is a rare example featuring 9 garnets, a gold heart & a silver heart. The ring is overall in good condition except there’s some chipping to the center garnet of the crown.
There's patina to the silver as we leave it in original uncleaned condition. As the assessment of an item's condition is highly subjective, please click and enlarge our photos to examine more detailed condition highlights for your judgment.
