French antique rope patterned gold locket c.1870

This is a rope-patterned photo locket from France, dating back to around 1870, crafted entirely from 18k gold. Despite its antique origins, this locket boasts a modern-looking design.

The locket has a wide oval body with neat and intricate straight rope-patterns on both the front and back. The arranged patterns create a ripple-like texture, enhancing the overall three-dimensional beauty of the piece.

The locket opens from left to right, revealing a compartment inside with its original deep blue lining without  glass covering. Due to its suitable size, the locket can accommodate not only photos but also substantial mementos, such as dried flowers, fabric, and other meaningful items.
