French Charles X c.1820 turquoise forget-me-not “En Pampille” earrings and brooch set
This set of earrings and brooch from the French Charles X period, dating to the 1810s, is crafted from 18k gold and set with turquoise stones.
The design features turquoise arranged to form forget-me-not flowers, with each component of the jewelry being a distinct flower. The arrangement creates a rich and lively bouquet. Forget-me-nots, blooming in spring, symbolize eternal true love in addition to their romantic name.
Beneath the bouquet, turquoise tassels dangle elegantly, mimicking raindrops slipping from the flowers. This design, known as "En Pampille," involves single gemstones strung together on a very slim gold base, creating a delicate and dynamic effect reminiscent of raindrops falling from leaves. This style, popular from the late 18th century into the 19th century, was also seen in the exquisite currant leaf jewelry (Feuilles de Groseillier) worn by French Empress Eugénie de Montijo.
