French Art Nouveau snake and moon bicolor brooch

DESCRIPTION

A heavy quality gold and platinum brooch from the Art Nouveau era, c.1900s, French in origin. This romantic and whimsical brooch features an 18k gold three-dimensional serpent coiled atop a platinum crescent moon. The snake has a natural ruby set on its head and the bar brooch is decorated with two natural emeralds on each side. The strong contrast between gold and platinum is very eye catching.

Snakes are associated with rebirth and transformation due to their ability to shed their outer layer of skin as they grow. Likewise, the crescent moon represents the phases and cycles of one’s life. Both the snake and moon share the symbol of eternity, they are also powerful motifs to express feminine energy.
