French Gold Hoop Earrings with Faceted Gold Ball Embellishments from the Early 19th Century
These French hoop earrings are crafted in 18k solid gold, showcasing a sleek and elegant style.
This style of earrings, known as "créoles" or hoop earrings, features a simple design, with the early versions typically consisting of gold hoops adorned with a multifaceted gold ball decoration near the earlobe, much like this piece showcased on our website. Over time, these créoles evolved into crescent shapes and featured more angular or curved contours with floral and foliate decorations, remaining a highly popular design style even to the present day.
The earrings bear a Ram's head hallmark, indicating their production between 1819 and 1838. One of the gold balls shows more wear and oxidation on the inner side, likely due to frequent contact with the skin. Overall, they are in good antique condition, consistent with their age.
