French gold egg charm with star-set pearls, c.1860
This French antique gold egg charm, circa 1860, is crafted in 18k solid gold and set with pearls. Originally the tip of a head pin, we’ve converted it into a pendant.
In European Christian culture, the egg has symbolized "rebirth," "hope," and the "return of spring" since the late Middle Ages. Many regions in Europe have traditions of decorating and gifting egg-shaped objects, from whimsical hand-painted Easter eggs to the opulent enameled Fabergé eggs of the Russian court—reflecting the egg’s deep cultural significance.
This petite, charming Easter egg features a soft, matte gold finish, with white pearls set in hand-engraved star-shaped bezels. The star settings add a touch of detail while enhancing the symbolism of purity and hope.
In good antique condition, the charm shows normal oxidation and wear consistent with its age. The added bail bears visible signs of the conversion process.
