French c.1820 cross pendant with golden-orange pastes in Greek form
This pendant from France’s Bourbon Restoration period (circa 1820–1830) is crafted in 9k gold and set with pastes in a soft golden hue with a subtle hint of orange—reminiscent of pale yellow topaz touched by the warmth of sunset light.
The design is a variation of the Greek cross, a form commonly seen in early Christian symbolism, characterized by its symmetrical, equal-length arms arranged in a perfect cross. Round and pear-shaped pastes are arranged to soften the geometric structure, adding gentle curves and a sense of flow. The smooth contours and warmly glowing pastes lend the piece a graceful, organic quality that reflects the Romantic era’s fascination with nature and softness.
The pendant is in good antique condition, showing normal signs of oxidation and wear. As condition assessments are subjective, please click and enlarge our photos to examine more detailed condition aspects as part of your evaluation.
