English Edwardian Enamel Ribbon Brooch with Citrine Briolettes c.1900
This English brooch from the Edwardian era (c.1900) is crafted in 15k solid gold (approx. 63% gold content), combining vivid guilloché enamel, briolette-cut citrines, and an uncommon safety pin construction into a composition of tension, color, and movement.
The main body features a green guilloché enamel ribbon—fluid in shape, richly textured in surface—pierced through by a 15k gold safety pin that functions as the clasp. On either end, delicate sculpted gold flowers add a touch of flourish, as if effortlessly showing off.
Suspended below is a pair of asymmetrical citrine drops, cut in sharp briolette form. Their elongated shape draws the eye downward, giving the brooch visual rhythm and movement. Each citrine is capped in glossy black and matching green enamel, echoing the color of the ribbon. A circular connecting link—enameled in black on both sides—adds an extra layer of craftsmanship that few would notice, but someone clearly cared enough to include.
The piece plays with contrast and control: golden warmth, emerald green, and lacquer-black, all assertive yet precisely in sync. Though sweet in motif, it’s never girlish—playful and a little flirtatious, but always with intention.
In good antique condition, with general surface wear and oxidation appropriate to age. Some areas of oxidation are more pronounced. The enamel is well preserved with no noticeable loss; the citrines show minor surface abrasions.
